Ubisoft fixed a bug in the complete edition of Heroes of Might & Magic III on Steam

- Ubisoft released the complete edition of Heroes III on Steam for $10.
- The first version did not include the game itself, only a 23 KB file.
- Users rated the game 35% due to the error.
- A few hours later, Ubisoft added the missing files, and the rating increased.
The game Heroes of Might & Magic III, which became a classic of the turn-based strategy genre, was available digitally for a long time only as a re-release from 2015, which did not include a random map generator and several popular expansions. Most fans had to turn to the GOG version to get the complete set of content.
New release on Steam
At the beginning of the week, Ubisoft released the complete edition of this game in the Steam store, offering it for 10 dollars. The package was equipped with an official Russian translation, making it appealing to the Russian-speaking audience, which was previously limited to only third-party solutions.
Technical error
However, the very next day after the release, users noticed something strange: instead of a full client, the game was presented as a small installation file of 23.49 KB, which did not launch and contained no game data. Essentially, only an empty 'player' was uploaded to the store, and the game itself was missing.
This oversight immediately reflected in the ratings: most reviews turned negative, and the average rating dropped to 35%. Comments pointed to the complete lack of game content and the inability to start the game.
A few hours later, Ubisoft responded by uploading the missing files in an update and making the full edition of the game. After the fix, the number of positive reviews began to grow, and the rating gradually recovered.
In comparison, the previous re-release from 2015, available on Steam, lacked a random map generator and two expansions – 'Breath of Death' and 'Blade of Armageddon'. Therefore, the appearance of a full edition with Russian localization became an important event for players who previously had to look for solutions in third-party stores.
At the same time, Ubisoft announced plans to release a fully 3D remake of Heroes of Might & Magic III. According to the company, the new version will be available in 2027 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect), as well as on PS 5 and Xbox Series X, promising modern graphics and updated gameplay.
Thus, despite the initial misunderstanding, Ubisoft was able to quickly correct the mistake, allowing players to enjoy the classic strategy in full and laying the groundwork for the future 3D remake.
