Yesterday afternoon, Capcom posted an official video presentation of its new game Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The material serves as an introductory guide for players who are experiencing the series' story for the first time.
The project is positioned as a convenient starting point for those who have not yet played the previous installments. The video showcases key elements of the universe, allowing for a quick immersion into its mythology.
Lore and conflict
Within the Onimusha universe, there exists a supernatural dimension inhabited by two clans of demons – they are the gamma. The former act as rulers of this world, while the latter are known for their tendency towards destructive chaos.
Despite their attempts to maintain order, the gamma clan has breached into the human world, growing stronger through the atrocities they commit. This invasion makes them increasingly dangerous to human settlements.
To counter the dark forces, they unite with chosen warriors. However, even the strongest person cannot withstand an attack from even the weakest member of the gamma without additional help.
To balance the forces, they created a special artifact – a glove capable of absorbing the souls of demons and granting its owner supernatural abilities. This glove becomes the central element of the gameplay.
The main character of the new installment is a young samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, who, during the plot, acquires the mentioned glove. Its power allows him to fight demons on par with their own abilities.
The game will be available on September 4 on personal computers via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A demo version is available for all platforms except Switch 2, which can be downloaded in advance.
The developers also announced the presence of a Russian voiceover, which, according to them, should make it easier for the Russian-speaking audience to perceive the plot.
For the Onimusha series, this is an important step: the new installment promises to combine traditional action-adventure gameplay with modern graphical solutions, attracting both veterans and new players.
