Waze is built on a simple deal: you give up your speed and coordinates, and in return, you receive others'. The traffic map here is drawn not by sensors on poles, but by the drivers themselves — plus what they manually mark: accidents, cameras, potholes, cars on the side of the road. Because of this, the service is strong in its timeliness: a blockage appears on the map before official sources learn about it. The project originated in Israel, became popular around 2010, and was later bought by Google, but the app continues to live separately from Google Maps with its own community of editors who manage the road layout itself. The downside is that navigation, in the name of saving three minutes, often leads into courtyards and narrow streets, which greatly annoys local residents. And the quality entirely depends on the number of users nearby: in small towns, the traffic map is empty. In Russia, Yandex Maps and Navigator are more convenient.
