Warcraft III: Reforged received a paid campaign and update 3.0

- Blizzard announced the paid campaign Forsaken Kingdom (30 hours, 30 €).
- At the same time, a free update 3.0 was released with graphical and editor improvements.
- The campaign unfolds after the fall of Lordaeron, in the underground city.
- The community notes the improvements but demands more frequent balance patches.
Blizzard has once again turned its attention to Warcraft III: Reforged, a project that faced sharp criticism in 2020 due to graphical shortcomings, bugs, and failure to meet promised improvements. At the BlizzCon 2026 presentation, the company announced two significant announcements: the paid campaign Forsaken Kingdom and the free patch 3.0.
Paid campaign Forsaken Kingdom
Forsaken Kingdom is a standalone storyline set after the fall of Lordaeron. Players will be able to explore the underground city that arose in the place of the destroyed kingdom. According to the developers, the campaign offers about 30 hours of gameplay, including new missions, dialogues, and unique units. The product costs 30 euros.
The presence of a separate paid expansion has caused mixed reactions in the community. Some players note that such content resembles the work of modders, who have long been creating high-quality custom campaigns. Nevertheless, the official campaign promises more polished graphics and animation than most amateur projects.
The free 3.0 update, released simultaneously with the announcement, aims to fix the most annoying issues of the original remake. The patch improves the visual aspect — new shaders have been added, texture detail has been increased, and engine performance has been optimized. Additionally, the world editor has been revamped, which should simplify the creation of custom maps and scenarios.
For players who prefer a classic style, the update offers three graphic modes: the original map, a modern HD version, and a hybrid set where the landscape remains classic while the hero and unit models are updated. This solution allows for the preservation of the original atmosphere while providing a fresher visual experience.
Despite the positive changes, the community points out the lack of new maps in the official ladder mode and the absence of balance patches since the last update, which was released over a year ago. Esports tournaments for Warcraft III remain rare, and most players are focused on custom games.
The new content is seen as Blizzard's attempt to rekindle interest in the old franchise, especially in light of announcements for future projects planned until 2030. The paid campaign may serve as a way to support the financial aspect of development while the company prepares for larger releases.
The results show that Reforged is gradually emerging from its reputation crisis: after a series of patches, players have begun to notice improvements, and the new animations on the engine look significantly better than the static models of the original release. However, the question of further development of multiplayer and support for custom maps remains open.
