British luxury car manufacturer Bentley has officially announced a new model – the fully electric crossover Torcol, which has become the fourth representative of the brand's lineup. Development and assembly take place at the factory in Crewe, where local suppliers and traditional manual labor methods are employed.
Design and appearance
The Torcol features proportions characteristic of Bentley: a length of about five meters, short overhangs, and a visually elongated hood, emphasizing the brand's heritage in the 'heavy luxury' segment. The faux radiator grille and light arch are styled after the previous Continental T but have received additional lighting, reflecting the influence of modern Chinese trends.
The body has sculptural lines designed to convey the image of a 'calm beast', combining a powerful silhouette with elegance. The model features the updated Bentley emblem for the first time, introduced last year.
Technical Specifications
The electric powertrain of the Torcol delivers a peak power of 888 hp (≈ 660 kW) and a torque of 1350 Nm. Two synchronous electric motors with permanent magnets operate in an all-wheel-drive configuration: the front motor is equipped with an open differential, while the rear has a locking differential and separate multi-disc clutches for each wheel.
Acceleration to 100 km/h reaches 2.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 260 km/h. The base version offers 250 km/h, a power of 821 hp, and a torque of 1194 Nm, with acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
Interior and Comfort
The Torcol cabin is focused on maximizing comfort for the driver and passengers. Standard seats are equipped with ventilation, heating, massage function, and 16-way adjustment. Massage is available for both the backrest and the seat cushion.
The rear bench, designed for three passengers, can now fold automatically for the first time in Bentley's history. All doors are equipped with electric drives and radar sensors that prevent collisions when opening; they close automatically when the brake is pressed or by command from the central display.
The internal control system combines an intelligent system capable of adapting the seat position based on the driver's posture, as well as integrating safety features such as automatic door locking until the seat belts are fastened.
Context and significance
The emergence of the fully electric Bentley crossover reflects the growing pressure from Chinese manufacturers who are actively capturing the premium electric vehicle segment. The launch of the Torcol demonstrates the British brand's readiness to compete in this field, combining traditional luxury with advanced technology.
