In brief
  • The game sold a million copies in two days
  • The peak online on Steam reached 64.4 thousand players
  • Critics' score on Metacritic - 83 points
  • Developers are actively releasing updates to fix bugs

The Blood of Dawnwalker, the first project of the independent studio Rebel Wolves (founded by developers from CD Projekt RED), achieved an impressive commercial result at launch. According to the publication, within two days of its release, the game was purchased by over a million players, confirming the high interest in the project despite its status as the debut work of the new studio.

Technical indicators support the success of the release. On the Steam platform, the peak online reached 64.4 thousand concurrent players, and the number of user reviews exceeded 9 thousand. The player rating reached 80 percent (on the release day, the figure was 6 percentage points lower), while professional critics on Metacritic rated the work at 83 points.

About the plot and gameplay

The Blood of Dawnwalker tells the story of a young man named Cohen, whose life changes dramatically after encountering the powerful vampire lord Brencis. The vampire kidnaps the protagonist's family and turns Cohen himself into a half-vampire, granting him supernatural abilities but also condemning him to an eternal thirst for blood. Cohen faces a difficult task: to save his loved ones within thirty days, master his new powers, and learn to live with the curse.

The game is positioned as a vampire RPG that combines elements of role-playing with action and open-world exploration. The developers were inspired by the successes of CD Projekt RED, however, reviewers note that The Blood of Dawnwalker has its own identity, although it has a number of shortcomings.

Technical issues and updates

At the time of release, the game faced criticism from players regarding its technical state. Many users complained about bugs, optimization issues, and high resource demands on PCs. In response, the developers at Rebel Wolves promptly began releasing patches. Among the first updates were added support for DualSense controllers for Steam and GOG platforms, as well as fixes for various bugs in the game.

Players paid special attention to the absence of Russian localization. This circumstance, combined with the high price (the game is positioned as a premium product), affected the audience's perception of the project in Russian-speaking regions. Some users also criticized the time management system in the game, noting that many actions require too many precious days out of the allotted thirty.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is available on personal computers via Steam and GOG, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The successful launch of the game demonstrates that the audience remains interested in ambitious projects from independent studios, especially when experienced developers, who have previously created significant works in the industry, are involved.
