Myanmar's military killed more than 700 civilians

- More than 700 civilians killed
- 224 women and 153 children among the victims
- Airstrikes are the main cause of deaths
The UN Human Rights Office reported that Myanmar's military is responsible for the deaths of more than 700 civilians during the six-month electoral period at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.
A new report covering the period from August to January mentions at least 702 confirmed cases of civilian deaths. Among the victims are 224 women and 153 children.
Airstrikes by the military junta remain the primary cause of destruction and deaths in the country. Sikaine has become the most dangerous region for civilians, with 191 people killed, including 60 women and 30 children.
The report also describes the brutal treatment of the Rohingya people. They are victims of forced recruitment by the 'Arakan Army' group, as well as killings, arbitrary arrests, and sexual violence.
The UN warns that the sharp "reduction of international aid further exacerbates the suffering of millions of people."
