Electric car Voyah Passion S performed «tunnel loop» in Wuhan

- The Voyah Passion S performed a 'tunnel loop' in Wuhan.
- The maneuver required 130 km/h and an angle of 16°.
- Dual motor drive: 475 kW, 765 N·m, efficiency 93.8%.
- The official launch is scheduled for August 15, with a price of 309,900 yuan.
At a closed testing facility in the city of Wuhan, a representative of the premium division of Dongfeng – the Voyah brand – reported the successful execution of a stunt known as the 'tunnel loop'. For the first time in history, such an extreme maneuver was demonstrated by a production electric vehicle, the Passion S, highlighting the growth of technical capabilities in mass-market EVs.
A reference to the legendary commercial
The stunt references a 1997 commercial where famous racer Michael Schumacher (reportedly a professional stuntman) flew across the ceiling of a tunnel in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Voyah decided to replicate this episode, but with a fully production car without any modifications.
Unlike the lightweight supercar, a mid-size SUV was chosen as the platform, equipped with a fully charged battery and a set of intelligent equipment. This made the task more challenging, as the weight of the vehicle remained unchanged.
Technical details of the maneuver
To perform the loop, the car had to reach a speed of 130 km/h and approach the tunnel wall at an angle of 16°. At this point, the centrifugal force completely counteracted the effect of gravity, allowing the car to complete a full 360° turn. Any deviation in speed of 3–5 km/h could lead to loss of traction and a fall.
The energy foundation is provided by a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a power output of 475 kW (approximately 637 hp) and a torque of 765 N·m. The platform is built on silicon carbide, operates at a voltage of 800 V, and achieves an electric drive efficiency of 93.8%. The active grille controls the temperature, maintaining power at all stages.
Pre-sales of the Passion S model started in July, and its top variant is priced at 309,900 yuan, which is about 45,600 US dollars. The official launch is scheduled for August 15, when the final retail price will be announced.
The showcase stunt makes sense not only as a marketing move but also as proof that modern electric vehicles can compete with traditional sports cars in extreme conditions. It enhances the image of the Chinese automotive industry, demonstrating a readiness for innovation and increasing consumer trust in electrification.
For the industry, such an experiment serves as a signal: mass-market electric vehicles are already capable of performing tasks previously considered the prerogative of only specialized supercars. This could accelerate interest in EV technologies and expand their application in new market segments.
