• 'Como' crushed 'RB Leipzig' 4:1 in the first round of the Champions League.
• Coach Fabregas noted the high level of play of the team.
• The victory occurred in the new league stage of the Champions League.
• The Italian club started well in the European tournament

The head coach of Como, Cesc Fabregas, expressed satisfaction with the result of the first round match of the group stage of the Champions League for the 2026/2027 season, in which his team defeated the German RB Leipzig with a final score of 4:1. According to the Spanish specialist, his players demonstrated a high level of football on the field and implemented most elements of the tactical plan.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of the new format of the Champions League, introduced in the 2024/25 season and continued in 2026/27, which provides for a so-called 'league stage' instead of traditional groups. Within this format, each club plays eight matches in the group stage, significantly increasing the number of matches and the intensity of the tournament. Such a change creates increased demands for team preparation and allows for a more objective assessment of their potential at the European level.

«Como» is one of the Italian clubs that has relatively recently returned to the top of the national championship or strengthened its position in the elite. For such a team, participating in the Champions League and performing at a proper level against European leaders is an important test of competitiveness and a preliminary indicator of how ready the team is to compete on the European stage.

«RB Leipzig» is traditionally considered one of the strongest German clubs in recent years. The club from Eastern Germany is known for its aggressive playing style, young talents, and skilled management, so a rout by the Italian opponent is quite an unexpected result and indicates either the exceptional form of the winner or serious problems for the Leipzig team at the time of the match.

Fabregas, a former outstanding midfielder of the highest level, has managed to adapt to coaching. His appointment as the head coach of «Como» was one of the landmark steps for the club on its path to strengthening its position in European football. The Spaniard's experience as a player in leading European teams gives him authority and an understanding of what is required for success at the continental level.

High performance in the first round of the league stage of the Champions League is a positive signal for 'Como' ahead of a series of home and away matches that the team faces in this competition. Starting with a convincing victory over a serious opponent is important for both the morale of the team and for achieving the tournament's goals, whether it's reaching the playoffs or being among the best teams in the league stage.

Fabregas's comment on the high level of play of his team confirms that the Italian club approached the match not only physically prepared but also tactically well-organized, which allowed them to dominate most of the match and capitalize on the majority of the created opportunities.
