In brief
  • Cyberleek has posted a new clip of GTA VI featuring Lucia in prison.
  • This is the first showing of gameplay scenes featuring the second protagonist.
  • The group accuses Rockstar of overloading employees.
  • The game is scheduled for release on November 19, priced at $80-$100.

Another video material from the upcoming installment of the popular Grand Theft Auto series – GTA VI – has surfaced online. This time, the focus is on one of the main characters, Lucia Caminos, whose prologue unfolds in a women's prison block. The clip showcases the character's memories of events that occurred nine months ago, her interactions with fellow inmates, and a brief walk through the corridors under the watch of a guard, culminating in a visit to a therapist.

Leak Context

Since the beginning of August, a group known as Cyberleek has already released more than fifteen videos, with a total duration exceeding half an hour. All previously published materials showcased gameplay featuring Jason Duval – the first of two main protagonists. The new fragment marks the first public display of gameplay scenes featuring Lucia, thereby revealing the second storyline, about which little was known before.

In a statement, Cyberleek claims to have access to a relatively fresh build of GTA VI and emphasizes that the game is not yet ready for its planned release in November. In their opinion, the amount of work required to bring the project to 'gold' status is too great for the remaining time, which creates additional pressure on the studio's staff.

Allegations of staff overload

Activists did not limit themselves to just the technical details of the leak – they openly accused Rockstar Games of 'locking' their employees in conditions of excessive workloads. According to them, the pace of development and deadlines set for the game's release could lead to burnout and worsen working conditions.

These statements fall under a broader discourse about labor practices in the video game industry, where issues of 'crunch' time, long overtime hours, and insufficient rest have become topics of discussion among both workers and industry media.

Official representatives of Rockstar have not yet commented on either the leak or the accusations regarding working conditions. The company traditionally keeps information about upcoming projects strictly confidential, and any details that appear in the public domain are usually treated as spoilers.

According to the plan, GTA VI will be released on November 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The price of the game will range from 80 to 100 US dollars depending on the edition. Additionally, an extended showcase of the project is scheduled for August 27 at 10:00 PM Moscow time, which will be available exclusively on the Netflix platform.

Leaks continue to fuel interest in the upcoming release, but they also raise questions about the safety of development and the responsibility of publishers towards their employees. It remains unknown how much these incidents may affect the final release schedule and the public's perception of the game.
