In the US, a prebuilt PC with RTX 5090 is cheaper than a standalone graphics card

- The ready-made HP Omen Max 45L with RTX 5090 costs $4709.99.
- The separate RTX 5090 graphics card is sold for $4829.99.
- The price difference makes buying a whole PC more advantageous.
American graphics card buyers are facing a price paradox: a ready-made gaming computer equipped with the latest GeForce RTX 5090 is cheaper than a separate graphics card of this model. This is reported by the VideoCardz portal, citing offers from major retailers.
Configuration of HP Omen Max 45L
The HP Omen Max 45L model is offered for $4709.99. It includes a GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor, 32 GB of DDR5-6000 RAM, a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, as well as a motherboard, power supply, cooling system, case, and pre-installed Windows 11. The computers are assembled to order, and deliveries will begin on August 31.
For comparison, the most affordable RTX 5090 available at retail – the Asus ROG Astral OC model – costs $4829.99. At launch, its price was $2799.99, which already exceeded Nvidia's recommended retail price of $1999 by $800. Now the price of the graphics card has increased by more than $2000.
Data from the aggregator PCPartPicker confirms that at the moment it is practically impossible to purchase a separate RTX 5090: only the mentioned Asus ROG Astral is in stock, while other offers are either unavailable or on pre-order.
The price difference reaches $120 in favor of a pre-built PC. When purchasing the HP Omen Max 45L, the buyer receives a fully assembled gaming computer, ready to use, and saves money compared to buying the graphics card separately.
This price discrepancy is explained by several factors: limited supply of new graphics cards, high demand from gamers and professionals, as well as rising component prices amid a global semiconductor shortage. Manufacturers of ready-made systems can include the graphics card in the overall package, receiving discounts from suppliers and distributing costs across other components.
For consumers, this means that in the near future, it will be more advantageous to purchase a ready-made gaming PC if the goal is to obtain an RTX 5090. However, such offers are often limited in quantity and require pre-ordering, which can increase waiting times.
The situation highlights the current supply chain challenges in the computer components industry and indicates that prices for individual top-tier parts may remain higher than the cost of entire systems built to order.
