American toy manufacturer Mattel announced the release of a new building set as part of the Brick Shop line, aimed at adult collectors. The set replicates the first Microsoft gaming console — Xbox, released in 2001, and includes 3,509 LEGO-compatible pieces, allowing for the construction of a life-sized console.
What's included in the set
In addition to the 1:1 scale replica of the console, the package includes an exact copy of the original Duke controller. For video game enthusiasts, Mattel added three small dioramas dedicated to the games Halo: Combat Evolved, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind и Psychonauts. Each of the scenes can be detached and displayed separately, making it easier to showcase.
Although it is impossible to build a complete gaming system from the set, the developers included several interactive elements. The buttons on the controller work, and the console itself is equipped with light effects. Pressing the Duke activates hidden scenes from the three mentioned games, accompanied by original music and lighting. There is also a secret button combination that triggers a separate light sequence.
New Brick Shop line
Brick Shop is positioned by Mattel as an alternative to adult LEGO sets. Until recently, the series included large car models from the Hot Wheels brand, but now the company is expanding its range, offering more complex and themed constructions.
In the same October, Mattel plans to release another Brick Shop set — a model of the Warthog vehicle from the Halo universe. This version will be in 1:22 scale, consist of 935 pieces, and cost $76. The set also includes metal wheels and a miniature Warthog in 1:64 scale with metal parts.
Previous Mattel projects
This is not the brand's first attempt to transfer a gaming console into a building block format. Earlier, under the Mega brand, a set replicating the Xbox 360 was released, consisting of 1,342 pieces. The model included lighting, a removable hard drive, and side panels that concealed an interactive interior.
Although Mattel does not claim to create playable mini-consoles, such sets allow fans to recreate iconic devices and gain a small dose of nostalgia, combining construction with elements of gamer culture.
