Maverick Games studio has announced the long-awaited project Clutch – a dynamic action-racing game set in an open world, developed by former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown. Initially, Amazon Games was set to publish the game in 2024, but during the winter period, the company reassessed its strategy and abandoned the project.
The new publishing partner is the French company Focus Entertainment, known for its games in the Plague Tale series, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and Atomic Heart. The announcement was accompanied by a short gameplay teaser showcasing the visual style and core mechanics of the upcoming game.
Why Focus decided to enter the racing market
According to representatives of Focus, their portfolio previously lacked purely racing projects, and the collaboration with Maverick Games is seen as an opportunity to expand their lineup and create a strong franchise. The company emphasized that it shares the creative vision of the developers and is ready to support them in realizing their ambitious ideas.
Mike Brown noted in the press release: "We created Maverick Games to bring to life the open-world racing game we've long dreamed of. Support from Focus allows us to move forward and turn Clutch into a notable brand." His words reflect a commitment to innovation in a genre traditionally dominated by large studios.
The plot of Clutch offers players the role of a modern racing criminal who leads a double life. By day, the character participates in elite historical races of the R1K series, and by night, transitions to cinematic chases and daring escapes, combining elements of drama and adrenaline.
The project's technical specifications include the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine, promising high detail and realistic visualization. The game will be available on PC platforms (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, and will also receive a full text translation into Russian.
The planned release is scheduled for spring 2027. Clutch is expected to be one of the rare new IPs in the open-world racing genre, capable of attracting both fans of classic racing simulators and players looking for a more story-driven experience.
