In brief
  • Shelaev expects a low-scoring match
  • Prediction – a draw 1:1
  • Ukraine without Sudakov, Mykolenko, Matviyenko
  • The match is on October 5 at 21:45 Kyiv time

Former midfielder of the Ukrainian national team and assistant coach of 'Koloss' Oleg Shelaev shared his prediction regarding the upcoming meeting between Ukrainians and Hungarians in the 4th round of the Nations League season 2026/27. According to him, a cautious game with few goals is to be expected, as both teams understand how important this match is for their chances of promotion.

Reasons for caution

Shelaev emphasized that the opponents will 'value the ball', as a loss could sharply worsen their positions in the group. Additionally, both teams are experiencing significant personnel losses. In the Ukrainian national team, according to him, players such as Yevhen Sudakov, Oleksandr Mykolenko, and Oleksandr Matviyenko are absent, which may affect the quality of the game.

The Hungarian team is also facing issues with their lineup, although Shelaev did not mention specific names. This creates additional uncertainty regarding the tactical approaches of both sides.

Match result prediction

According to the expert, the most likely outcome will be a 1:1 draw. This assessment reflects his view of the balance of power and both teams' tendency towards cautious play.

It is worth noting that the first meeting of these national teams in the opening round of the Nations League ended with a victory for Ukraine with a score of 1:0. The only goal was scored by Danilo Sikan, who, however, will miss the next match due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

The next game between Ukraine and Hungary is scheduled for October 5 at 21:45 Kyiv time. The match will be available in a text online broadcast, allowing fans to follow the event in real time.

Other Ukrainian experts have already joined this prediction: Ivan Hetsko, Maksym Shatskikh, and Serhiy Nagornyak, who also provided their assessments of the possible outcome.

Ahead of the match, UAF President Andriy Shevchenko expressed respect for the leader of the Hungarian national team, Dominik Szoboszlai, noting his successes at Liverpool and the importance of his role in the team.

In summary, the match promises to be tactically rich, and its outcome could determine which of the group participants will have a real chance of promotion to the higher division of the Nations League.
