Witcher 3 Remaster: new accessibility settings and save compatibility with DLC “Songs of the Past”

- The Witcher 3 remaster will be released on September 29 on all major platforms.
- New accessibility settings added without achievement blocking.
- Saves from the original Wild Hunt are compatible with the DLC 'Songs of the Past'.
- The DLC is scheduled for release in 2027, with a free upgrade for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series owners.
During the largest gaming exhibition, gamescom, CD Projekt RED presented a fully updated version of 'The Witcher 3'. In addition to graphical improvements, the developers showcased the upcoming DLC pack 'Songs of the Past', which will be based on the remaster.
Release date and platforms
The new remaster is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2024. The game will be available on PC (via Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Owners of the original versions for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series are promised a free upgrade to the remaster.
One of the key points of the announcement was the additional accessibility settings. The screenshot taken during the live stream shows several new menu items that allow players to adapt the gameplay to different needs. The developers emphasized that enabling these options will not affect the ability to earn achievements and trophies.
Players have expressed concerns that saves from the original 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' may become incompatible with the updated version and, consequently, with the new DLC. These doubts were heightened after reports of potential issues with progress transfer surfaced online.
The video of popular YouTuber NorZZa, as well as an interview with the project's creative director Karolina Kuzya-Rokosh, dispelled these concerns. According to her, any save file from the base version of the game will be fully supported in the remaster, and players will be able to immediately start playing 'Songs of the Past', retaining all previously made decisions.
For those who have lost their progress for any reason, there is an option to start the DLC directly from the main menu, bypassing the need to load an old save. This simplifies access to new content and removes barriers for new players.
The free upgrade will only be available to owners of digital copies on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Users of previous generation consoles, as well as those who purchased the game in physical editions, will have the option to purchase the remaster for a separate fee.
The 'Songs of the Past' package is scheduled for release in 2027. It is expected to expand the storyline, taking into account the choices made in the original game, and will offer new quests, characters, and locations, while maintaining the high quality standards characteristic of CD Projekt RED.
