FarmVille — not so much a game as a social experiment that took over Facebook feeds in 2009 and got millions of adults to log into their browsers to water corn. The mechanics are simple: you plow a plot, plant a crop, wait in real time, harvest, buy new plots and cows. It all relied on two things. The first — timers: planted crops wither if you are late, pulling people out of their lives at night. The second — friends: without neighbors, nothing could be built, and the entire feed was filled with requests to send a horseshoe or fertilizer, which is why FarmVille simultaneously soared and became the main irritant of the social network. Zynga made a name for itself with it and also showed the industry what a free game with the sale of boosters looks like. Its historical significance is enormous, but you can no longer play it: the browser original was shut down along with the sunset of Flash.
