The Kim family lives in a semi-basement, catching someone else's Wi-Fi from the ceiling and taking on any odd job. When the son gets a chance to become a tutor in the wealthy Park household, it turns out that the position can be expanded — and then Bong Joon Ho unfolds his signature trap: the film starts as a charming con where you want to root for the crooks, and ends up in a completely different genre, with the moment of transition being almost impossible to catch. The class structure is literally built into the architecture: some live above, behind glass and lawns, while others live below, where everything flows during a downpour, and the camera constantly moves up and down the stairs between these floors. At the same time, 'Parasite' does not assign villains — everyone behaves poorly, and almost everyone can be understood. The film became the first non-English language film to win the Oscar for Best Picture, and along with the Palme d'Or at Cannes, it secured Korean cinema in the global mainstream.
