In brief
  • Google has released Gemini Enterprise for Legal – an AI platform for lawyers.
  • The system is integrated with Thomson Reuters, Harvey, and Legora.
  • Weil Gotshal, Cleary Gottlieb, and other major firms are involved in the development.
  • Competition is intensifying: Anthropic and Thomson Reuters are also offering legal AI.

Google has expanded its Gemini Enterprise line by releasing a separate module, Gemini Enterprise for Legal. According to Reuters, the system is designed to automate both simple and complex legal operations while ensuring complete protection of transmitted information.

Integration and AI agents

The new module includes a plugin that connects to popular legal software and databases. Additionally, the platform features a set of AI agents capable of performing specialized legal and administrative tasks without constant human involvement, allowing lawyers to focus on more demanding issues.

Google announced a direct and secure connection of Gemini Enterprise for Legal to Thomson Reuters services, as well as to the solutions of leading legal startups Harvey and Legora. Such integrations allow the use of verified sources of legal information and modern analytical tools.

Collaboration with leading firms

The development of the solution is actively participated in by major international law firms: Weil Gotshal, Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields, and Williams & Connolly. Representatives of the firms note that working together with Google will accelerate the creation of practical tools capable of enhancing the efficiency of legal processes.

In addition to the legal sector, Google has announced similar solutions for financial services and stated plans to expand the Gemini Enterprise line to other sectors of the economy.

The expansion of the platform is taking place against the backdrop of increasing competition in corporate AI. In recent months, Anthropic and Thomson Reuters have introduced their own solutions for legal tasks, including the open-source Thomson 1.0 model developed based on the company's materials.

According to a Deloitte study, by 2026, legal services are in the early stages of digital transformation but are already attracting significant investments. Generative models assist not only in document preparation but also in managing client cases and analytics.

Amrita Mehrotra, Product Director at Google Cloud, emphasized that Gemini Enterprise for Legal provides users with the freedom to choose between various built-in models, allowing the solution to be tailored to the specific needs of the firm.

In an interview, Jonathon Soler, co-managing partner at Weil Gotshal, noted the rising expectations of clients, who increasingly demand that lawyers use AI to enhance productivity. Managing partner at Cleary Gottlieb, Jeffrey Karpf, added that collaboration with Google opens up the opportunity to co-create useful tools for the industry.
