In brief
  • Cyberleek promises new GTA VI leaks until Rockstar apologizes.
  • The group demands public apologies and a change in the publishers' policy.
  • Released materials: two videos and a screenshot of the map.
  • The game will be released on November 19, with a price starting at $80 (≈9,999 ₽).

Yesterday, a manifesto revealing the goals and future plans of the activist group Cyberleek joined the already published gameplay leak of the open-world crime thriller GTA VI from Rockstar Games. According to its representatives, the leak is part of a broader campaign against publishers whom they call unscrupulous.

What has already been made publicly available

The day before, Cyberleek released two videos featuring gameplay snippets from an early version of GTA VI, which, according to insider Nate the Hate, has been around for about a year. In addition to the video materials, a screenshot of the supposed game world map was published, allowing gamers to see the scale of the upcoming project.

In the manifesto published alongside the materials, the group stated that it would continue to 'leak' any available data until Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive abandon what Cyberleek calls an 'anti-consumer approach', issue a public apology, and commit to making amends.

Requirements and threats

Cyberleek has formulated three main rules, the violation of which should serve as grounds for sanctions against any publisher. They emphasize that these rules represent a minimum, not a maximum threshold of acceptable behavior. The conclusion of the manifesto sounds a warning: 'If Cyberleek can reach Rockstar, no one is safe. To all corporations: behave decently, or you will become the next target.'

The group also promises to 'sanction' all publishers who violate at least one of these directives, implying further leaks, cyberattacks, or public disclosures.

Context of the game's release

The official release of GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. The game's price in the USA starts at $80, which is approximately 9,999 rubles in Russia. An extended showcase of the project is planned for next week, which will be temporarily exclusive to the Netflix platform.

Events are taking place against the backdrop of rising tensions in the video game industry, where major publishers often face criticism for monetization, lack of transparency, and delays in product releases. Activists like Cyberleek use leaks as a way to draw attention to these issues and force companies to change their policies.

While official representatives from Rockstar and Take-Two have not commented on the group's demands, the situation remains open. Possible further leaks could increase pressure on publishers and affect the perception of the upcoming release among players.
