Leak of 192 GB of Rockstar files revealed the cancelled Liberty City project for GTA V

- Rockstar leaked 192 GB of files containing materials from GTA V and GTA VI.
- The archive contains an expanded DLC for GTA V set in Liberty City.
- The cancellation of the DLC is related to the priority of developing GTA Online.
Recently, a large leak of Rockstar Games files, amounting to about 192 GB, was made public on the internet. Analysts have already found many materials in it that never made it into official releases: deleted dialogues, unfinished missions, unused models, and textures.
Particular interest is drawn to the data related to the planned DLC for GTA V, which was supposed to feature a significantly expanded version of Liberty City. Compared to the city from GTA IV, the new map was expected to cover a much larger area, including an extensive coastline.
How the information was obtained
The author of the TJGM channel on YouTube used the CodeWalker utility to extract geometry from the files and published a diagram of the proposed map. According to him, the image was obtained directly from the game resources and is not a screenshot from a finished version.
The leak also contains the source code and auxiliary tools from Rockstar, the authenticity of which, according to researchers, can be verified by comparing it with previously published materials.
In addition to materials related to Liberty City, the archive also found a very early version of the map for the upcoming GTA VI, as well as fragments of the canceled DLC about Trevor Philips. Actor Steven Ogg mentioned that he worked on a storyline where Trevor goes undercover for the government, but the project was never realized.
Experts link the cancellation of story expansions to Rockstar's decision to focus on GTA Online. According to former senior artist Joseph Rubino, after the launch of the online service, the company saw huge revenue and redirected resources to its development, postponing major single-player DLC.
Nevertheless, some fans believe that the material about Liberty City could be used in future projects, possibly as part of GTA VI. As of now, there are no official confirmations of this version.
The leak reminds of previous instances when evidence of canceled Rockstar projects surfaced online, and shows how ambitious the studio's plans can be, even if they do not reach release.
