At the recent Tokyo Game Show in Tokyo, representatives of the Japanese studio JP Universe and publishers Dragami Games and Nada Holdings officially announced the long-awaited sequel to the popular action-horror Lollipop Chainsaw. The new installment is titled Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back, reflecting its connection to the original and promising new gameplay opportunities.

The main character will once again be Juliet Starling – a student known for her vibrant appearance and ability to slay zombies with a chainsaw. The action is set in the fully restored city of San Romero, which has been renamed Jaredwood and transformed into a modern metropolis with a thriving film industry. According to the plot, a mysterious director lures Juliet into his own zombie movie, where she must team up with new allies to uncover a conspiracy and neutralize the emerging threat.

The project is led by well-known industry specialists: Hajime Tabata, former director of Final Fantasy XV, and Masahiro Yuki, the writer of the first Lollipop Chainsaw. They are joined by artist NekoshowguN, who was responsible for the design of Juliet and her weapons in the original, and is now also developing the boss designs. In her post, she noted that working on the new bosses is "a truly special experience that allows for an expansion of the visual style of the series."

Unlike the first part, which was released in 2012 and quickly gained cult status, Lollipop Chainsaw 2 promises a larger world, improved graphics, and an expanded combat system. The developers emphasized that the game will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 5 platform, and a demo version is already available to TGS attendees.

In addition to the sequel announcement, the publishers announced an upcoming remaster of the original Lollipop Chainsaw. In the coming weeks, digital stores will offer discounts of up to 45%. Such offers are already available on Xbox and will last until October 15, while the Steam promotion will end on September 30. There is currently no information on discounts for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

For fans of the series, the news of the continuation has been a long-awaited event, considering the more than ten-year break since the release of the first part. Back2Back is expected to attract both the old audience and new players interested in the combination of horror and vibrant action.
