The independent studio CornflowerBlue has announced Lightspeed Lina — a vibrant 3D platformer that combines platforming mechanics with combat and exploration elements. The developer has simultaneously launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, aiming to raise $45,000 to continue production.
The main character is Lina 'Lightspeed' Lockett, a former thief turned gem hunter. The story unfolds after the crash of an interplanetary ship brings unusual heart-shaped crystals to the islands of Ephemeris, referred to by the locals as Comets. Lina rushes there in hopes of profit but soon encounters a pink alien and meets her old teacher.
The heroine uses special speed-boosting boots, which have become the main tool for quick movement, combat, and interaction with the world. During her adventures, Lina finds alien devices called Spur Arts, which provide new combat skills and open alternative paths for exploring the surrounding area.
Game world and mechanics
The Lightspeed Lina universe features a branching system of nonlinear territories of various sizes. The islands contain settlements with characters, hidden treasures, and combat opponents, as well as winding tracks, ramps, and slopes for maximum speed. The developer promises precise controls and a harmonious blend of dynamic movement, combat encounters, and world exploration.
The character allows for customization of appearance: players can dress Lina in evening gowns, business ensembles, masquerade costumes, and even fun mascot outfits. The project supports multiple control schemes — gamepad (recommended), keyboard, and mouse.
Platform and Availability
Lightspeed Lina is being developed for PCs on Steam. Currently, only English localization is confirmed, and localization in other languages is not mentioned. The crowdfunding campaign, Steam page, and access to beta testing are already open for interested players.
