In brief
  • Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch will be released on October 22, 2026.
  • Exclusive only to Nintendo Switch 2.
  • The game is designed for cooperative play for two.
  • The developers are Atlantis Studio, founded by a former co-founder of Ready At Dawn.

Atlantis Studio has officially confirmed the release date of its debut project – the horror game for two, Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch. The premiere is scheduled for October 22, 2026, and the game will be available only on the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, making it one of the first exclusive titles for this platform.

Gameplay and Cooperation

The story revolves around two characters trapped in a locked and sinister house. One player wakes up in complete darkness, where an unknown threat lurks in the shadows. The second player, in a safe location, has the opportunity to observe what is happening and give real-time instructions. This format places communication at the center of survival: clear commands can save lives, while misunderstandings can lead to death.

The developers emphasize that the game requires constant dialogue, action planning, and immediate responses to emerging dangers. The audio communication system and visual cues allow partners to synchronously solve puzzles, avoid traps, and confront terrifying creatures that appear in the dark corners of the house.

Technical details and language support

At the moment, the developers have not announced the list of supported languages, but given the international nature of the project, an expansion of localization is expected in the future. The game is built on modern graphic solutions that allow for maximum utilization of the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, including improved graphics and smoother gameplay.

Developers and their experience

Atlantis Studio is based in the French city of Avignon. The company was founded by Nico Augusto and Ru Weerasuriya. The latter was previously a co-founder of the studio Ready At Dawn, known for its projects God of War (spin-offs for PSP) and the action game The Order: 1886 for PlayStation 4. This experience in creating atmospheric and visually rich projects promises a high level of execution in the new horror game.

Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is positioned as a game that can unite fans of horror stories and those who appreciate cooperative gameplay. Its unique mechanic of 'one in the dark, the other on the line' is expected to attract the attention of both players seeking adrenaline and those who prefer strategic interaction.

The trailer released alongside the announcement already showcases dark interiors, a tense atmosphere, and moments when one of the players must rely solely on their partner's voice instructions. This emphasizes the game's core message – survival is only possible through mutual understanding.

The game will be available digitally through the Nintendo eShop, as well as in physical copies, allowing for a collection on the new console. Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is expected to be one of the most talked-about releases of fall 2026, setting a new standard for cooperative horror games.
