Goat Simulator was born as a joke at an internal Coffee Stain jam and ended up being released for sale almost unchanged — along with all the bugs, because the bugs here are considered part of the content. You play as a goat. There is no goal. There is a small town, ragdoll physics, a tongue that sticks to everything, and completely broken collision mechanics: the goat flies into the stratosphere from touching a ramp, gets stuck in textures, and drags a fuel tank behind it. Points are awarded for tricks, like in skate arcades, but this is a blatant parody of the combo system. The whole point is to experiment: find references on the map, get to a pool party, climb to places the developers clearly didn’t look. The entertainment here lasts exactly one evening, but it’s a great evening, and the game itself has become a monument to the era when absurd videos on YouTube could achieve sales figures no worse than marketing.
