The Earth is dying slowly and mundanely: dust storms, dying crops, school textbooks explaining to children that being a farmer is a profession more important than being an astronaut. From this, 'Interstellar' (2014) grows into an expedition through a wormhole to distant stars, but Christopher Nolan is less concerned with scale than with cost: time near a black hole flows differently, and an hour on a distant planet costs years of life for those left at home. The film was made with the participation of physicist Kip Thorne, and the visualization of the black hole turned out to be so meticulous that it became the basis for a scientific article. But the film is remembered not for its equations, but for how it connects solid science fiction with a very simple feeling — a father's longing for children he will not see grow up. Hans Zimmer's organ and the silent shots of empty space make this contrast almost unbearable.
