In brief
  • Blizzard announced the first expansion for Warcraft 3 in 23 years — Forsaken Kingdom.
  • The new hero is the Forsaken Paladin, the first new unit in 20 years.
  • Along with the expansion, Reforged 3.0 was released and the classic client is available.

During the opening ceremony of the BlizzCon 2026 festival, representatives of Blizzard Entertainment announced the release of the first expansion for the legendary strategy Warcraft 3 in over two decades. The project is titled Forsaken Kingdom and was released simultaneously with the announcement, allowing players to immediately dive into the new content.

The new campaign and hero

The expansion takes players to the concluding phase of the story of Lordaeron. The main character is a resurrected paladin who has embraced the light side again and earned the title 'Forsaken Paladin'. This is the first new hero for Warcraft 3 in twenty years, which gives the campaign special significance.

Forsaken Kingdom offers a completely new storyline, allowing players to explore the origins of the legendary Undercity, confront the theme of death, and test their strategic skills in battles alongside well-known characters from past campaigns.

Update for Warcraft 3: Reforged

Along with the release of the expansion, Blizzard introduced a major update version 3.0 for the remaster of Warcraft 3: Reforged. The update includes a revamped inventory, improved map editor, performance enhancements, and a Definitive Edition graphic mode that brings the visual aspect of the game closer to the original vision.

In addition, the company announced the availability of the original client of classic Warcraft 3 in the store for owners of Reforged. The feature has been in testing since spring of this year, allowing players to switch between the remaster and the classic version.

The cost of the expansion is $30, and bundled with the base game it is $50. Both cinematic and gameplay trailers showcasing key moments of the new campaign have been published on the official website.

The appearance of Forsaken Kingdom marks an important step for Blizzard towards rekindling interest in classic strategies, offering both a nostalgic and fresh experience. For the player community, this is the first major content release since The Frozen Throne in 2003, which could stimulate further development of the genre and support competitiveness in the modern market.
