Anthropic is preparing a new AI model ahead of its IPO to compete with GPT‑6 Astra

- Anthropic plans to release a new AI model before its IPO in November 2024.
- The model is expected to compete with OpenAI's popular GPT-6 Astra.
- The company maintains a focus on safety despite investor pressure.
- Chinese open models are intensifying competition in the global AI market.
Despite calls to slow down the development of artificial intelligence for public safety, Anthropic's management is actively monitoring market dynamics. According to Reuters, the startup intends to present a new AI model before its initial public offering, which is scheduled for November 2024. The goal is to create a product capable of competing with OpenAI's recently released GPT-6 Astra.
Current market situation
GPT-6 Astra, launched this month, has quickly gained the trust of OpenAI's corporate clients, especially in the fields of cybersecurity, software development, and workflow automation. According to the analytics platform Ramp, the Astra family of solutions already accounts for about 13% of large companies' spending in the AI segment, while the Anthropic Claude Fable model holds only 8%.
These figures have raised concerns for Anthropic, as the company has traditionally held strong positions in the corporate sector. At the same time, OpenAI is actively shifting its business model towards accelerated monetization, offering clients more flexible payment and integration terms.
Financial expectations and investor pressure
By the end of July, Anthropic's revenue was about $65 billion. Management plans to increase it to $190-200 billion by 2028. OpenAI, in turn, forecasts revenue of $350 billion by 2030, acknowledging that by that time the company will still be unprofitable. Rising interest rates on loans are intensifying investors' demands for quick returns on investments in AI technologies.
In addition to American giants, Anthropic and OpenAI are facing increasing competition from Chinese developers who offer open models with accessible weights and the ability to deploy on clients' own computing resources. This allows large corporations, including Meta Platforms, to minimize the transfer of confidential data to the cloud.
The security and strategic approach of Anthropic
Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei recently launched a campaign for voluntary slowing of AI development, emphasizing the importance of safety. Therefore, the company does not plan to rush a new model to market without sufficient testing, despite the need to strengthen its position ahead of the IPO.
Launching a new model before the public offering will allow Anthropic to demonstrate to investors that the firm is capable of maintaining technological leadership while adhering to the principles of responsible AI development.
In a context where the AI market is becoming increasingly dynamic and international, Anthropic aims to maintain competitive advantages by offering clients reliable and safe solutions capable of competing with GPT‑6 Astra and open Chinese alternatives.
