An unnamed office clerk goes months without sleep, treating himself by attending other people's support groups, and generally doesn't understand why he lives — until he meets soap salesman Tyler Durden, a man without insurance, a mortgage, or brakes. From their acquaintance grows an underground club where men hit each other in the face to feel something. David Fincher shot this as a wicked satire on a society where identity is assembled from a furniture catalog, and rebellion against the system surprisingly easily turns into a new system, even more rigid. The film flopped at the box office, sparked controversy, and was accused of all sins at once — and then it went to video and became one of the main cult texts of the turn of the century, quoted more often than read. It's better to watch without finding out anything in advance: 'Fight Club' has a reputation for a twist, and it is well-deserved.
