- The treasure was found in Halle
In 2025, German researcher Dirk Braungardt discovered a small treasure from Roman times in the city of Halle, located in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
He found five silver denarii in a plowed area, which likely were originally in one wallet, hidden or lost by the owner.
According to a press release from the Saxony-Anhalt Office for the Protection of Monuments and Archaeology, almost all known Roman coins from this region were isolated finds, except possibly for four coins purchased in the late 19th century, but the circumstances of their discovery remain unknown.
This discovery represents a significant event in the archaeological world, as it provides valuable information about the Roman presence in the region.
