Instagram started as an app for square photos with film filters — phones took poor pictures, and the filter honestly saved the shot. Since 2010, almost nothing remains of that idea: first came Stories, then an algorithmic feed instead of chronology, then Reels in response to TikTok, and the service became primarily a video platform and a showcase for stores and bloggers. Inside — an editor with filters, direct messages, live broadcasts, advertising, and statistics for business accounts; a version for computers exists, but it is limited, everything important is on the phone. Important for the Russian reader: the service belongs to Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia and banned, and access to Instagram in the country has been restricted since March 2022. Alternatives include Pinterest for visual collections, VK and Telegram channels as platforms, TikTok and YouTube Shorts for short videos.
